Cuckoo Maran

DSC02993
  • The breed was developed in Maran, France and is sometimes referred to as the chocolate eggers. They lay a beautiful, large, chocolate brown egg. The Cuckoo Maran hens closely resemble Barred Rock hens and can be confused with the Barred Rocks at first glance. Close inspection will show that the Cuckoo Marans black and white feather pattern is “fuzzier” than the Barred Rocks. They are a very friendly bird and are a good layer of those beautiful eggs in spite of the fact that they are not recognized by the American Poultry Association. In addition to the “Cuckoo” variety of Maran, you can also find Black Copper, Silver Cuckoo, Golden Cuckoo, White, Wheaten, Birchen, Blue and other varieties of Marans.
